2 Ski areas

These two ski areas are hidden behind the Tauern Mountains in Salzburger Land. There is skiing on the flanks of the Katschberg-Aineck, the Fanningberg and the Grosseck-Sperereck. The whole area guarantees fun on the slopes for 140 km. For the most part, they are easy slopes that are good for everyone to ski. The villages are situated high, at about 1100 metres, and the highest run starts at 2360 metres. The villages in the region are cosy, the houses colourful. In the larger villages there are various shops, restaurants and bars. There is no mass tourism here. Hikers and cross-country skiers will certainly enjoy themselves here. There is 1 ski pass for the whole region.

The pistes are divided into about 50 km of blue, about 60 km of red and about 30 km of black.

Skiing on the Aineck

This area is very varied and there are wide pistes with many levels of difficulty, ideal for carvers, snowboarders and other winter sports enthusiasts. Aineck has a piste and lift connection with Katschberg and is very suitable for families with children. For the snowboarders there is the fun park with halfpipe, boardercross, kickers, tables, boxers and rails. There is also a children's fun park with childcare here.

Skiing on the Grosseck-Speiereck

This family-friendly ski area has pistes that are between 1800 m and 2400 m high and therefore snow is guaranteed until spring. There are more than 40 km of pistes with 9 lifts. You can take the modern 8-person gondola from Mauterndorf-Hammer to the top station at 2400m. From here there is a beautiful 4.5 km valley walk. There is hardly any waiting time at the lifts. In Mauterndorf there is a practice slope for the children and a children's ski school.

Skiing on the Fanningberg

In the heart of Lungau lies the Fanningberg with altitudes between 1497 and 2050 metres. This family ski mountain has a sunny, wind-protected slope. There are over 40 km of pistes with 5 lifts. Part of the slopes can be snowed with snow cannons. The modern, covered lift 'Samsonjet' takes you up to 2050 metres in 7 minutes.

Off-piste skiing

In Lungau & Katschberg you can ski wonderfully off-piste. You can buy a folder with maps with tour suggestions (the Lungau ski tour guide). The folder offers you 20 different tours in various degrees of difficulty. Each tour includes info sheets, a tour description, maps and a 3D altitude profile.

Cross-country skiing

n the Lungau & Katschberg area there are 200 km of cross-country skiing trails through beautiful, wintry areas and along the villages, which are groomed daily. Lungau has therefore been awarded the title of having the largest network of cross-country ski trails in Austria. A large part of the cross-country ski trails are located at higher altitudes, which is why the area is snow-sure until spring. For example, there is the 20 km long Schönfeldloipe, which lies between 1730 and 2020 metres above sea level. If you want to cross-country ski with children, then there is the possibility to rent a cross-country sledge in Weisspriach.
Winter hiking
The beautiful nature offers you many possibilities for snow hikes. You may be able to rent winter hiking boots.
Après-ski
The après-ski facilities are rated as sufficient to good by holidaymakers. The prices are okay. There are definitely possibilities to have a drink after a day of skiing.
Other Activities
Ice skating, tobogganing and sleigh rides.
