Kaltenbach is perfect for a spring ski holiday with children, offering wide slopes, modern lifts and reliable snow conditions in the Zillertal.

Kaltenbach is a small and well-organised village in the front part of the Zillertal. Its main advantage for families is the direct access to the Hochzillertal–Hochfügen ski area. No ski buses, no long walks – just a quick and comfortable start to your ski day. During spring, this convenience becomes even more valuable when skiing with children.

The Hochzillertal–Hochfügen ski area is known for its high-quality infrastructure, modern lifts and perfectly groomed slopes. Families especially appreciate the wide, clearly laid-out blue runs, which make learning to ski both safe and enjoyable. The area around the Kristallhütte is particularly popular with families thanks to its gentle gradients and long descents.
Hochzillertal offers well-organised ski schools with dedicated children’s zones, conveyor belts and playful teaching concepts. This makes it easy for young skiers to build confidence step by step. Spring is often less crowded than peak winter weeks, resulting in smaller groups and more individual attention for children.
Spring skiing in Kaltenbach combines the best of both worlds: good snow conditions in the morning and pleasant temperatures in the afternoon. Children benefit from the milder weather, while parents enjoy sunnier days and quieter slopes. This makes spring an excellent period for families who prefer a relaxed ski holiday.
With slopes ranging from approximately 600 to 2,400 metres, Hochzillertal is considered very snow-reliable, even later in the season. Many pistes have a favourable orientation, and modern snowmaking systems help maintain good conditions down to the valley. This reliability is an important reason why families choose Kaltenbach for spring skiing.
Besides Kaltenbach itself, villages such as Stumm, Ried im Zillertal and Fügen are popular places to stay. Stumm offers a traditional Tyrolean village atmosphere, while Fügen provides additional leisure facilities, including thermal baths – ideal for a rest day with children.
Kaltenbach can be reached mostly via motorways. A unique advantage is Kaltenbach’s own train station, located within walking distance of the lifts. This makes the village particularly attractive for families travelling by train.
