Location and accessibility

The ski area stretches from 819m to 2026m. There's a good layer of snow in the valley thanks to the many snow cannons, just in case the weather doesn't cooperate. Beginners should not be put off by the many red runs on the Wildschönau side. These slopes are very wide, giving you plenty of room to ski down at your own pace. For more experienced skiers, there are FIS runs, deep-snow runs, speed runs and race runs. For example, the valley run to Inneralpbach: a long, exciting run. Or the Baumgarten run: the ultimate challenge. Off-piste skiing is also one of the many possibilities in this area. There are 17 km of freeride slopes. And for those who have not had enough skiing during the day, there are three floodlit slopes for the evening.

Ski area and altitude

The ski area stretches between 2,150 m and 3,113 m, offering around 55 km of groomed pistes and an additional 36 km of freeride terrain. Modern lifts – including the wind-stable Falginjoch Funifor and the new Weißseejochbahn – ensure comfortable access to the highest slopes. The Kaunertal Glacier’s broad and open runs make it ideal for both beginners and experienced skiers who enjoy carving or long, flowing descents. The longest run, from Karlesjoch down to Ochsenalm, covers more than 1,100 m of vertical drop – a highlight for anyone who loves endurance skiing.

Snowpark, facilities and atmosphere

Snowboarders and freestyle skiers will feel at home here too. The Snowpark Kaunertal is among Austria’s best and hosts major international events every autumn. Queues are virtually non-existent, and the area’s layout is calm and easy to navigate. The resort is also largely barrier-free, offering accessible skiing for people with disabilities thanks to its wide slopes and modern lift design.

Snow reliability and season

One of Kaunertal Glacier’s greatest strengths is its snow reliability. Being a true glacier resort, skiing is possible for most of the year. The season typically runs from October to May, and sometimes starts as early as September. The high elevation guarantees excellent snow quality, and the cool temperatures keep the surface firm and fresh. Even in spring, you can enjoy perfect conditions and sunny days with breathtaking views of the surrounding three-thousand-metre peaks.

Villages and accommodation

Charming villages such as Feichten, Grasse, Nufels, and Platz are found in the valley, offering cosy guesthouses, chalets, and apartments. These villages are the heart of the Kaunertal and the perfect base for a ski holiday at Kaunertal Glacier. The roads are well maintained and usually snow-cleared, while the scenic glacier road adds adventure to your arrival.

Why choose Kaunertal Glacier?

  • Excellent snow reliability thanks to glacier conditions
  • Skiing from October to May
  • Wide, quiet slopes with no lift queues
  • Perfect mix of on-piste and freeride terrain
  • Modern lifts and high-quality infrastructure
  • Peaceful alternative to busier Tyrolean resorts
  • Charming, authentic Tyrolean villages in the Kaunertal
